England in DroughtPosted on 17th Jun 2011 @ 2:53 PM
Increasing numbers of hair and beauty salons are switching to Easydry in an attempt to save water and help the environment following revelations that huge swathes of England are already in the midst of a drought. According to the government, this spring has been the driest across England and Wales since 1990 and the driest spring on record in south-east and central southern England. Drought status has been triggered in Anglia, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, parts of Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire, and western Norfolk. Most water companies are still confident they can sustain supplies, although Severn Trent Water has told customers restrictions may become necessary should the dry weather continue. “Many beauty therapists and hairdressers are waking up to the need to conserve water and are implementing measures across the country, but one of the easiest steps to reducing water waste is to switch to Easydry disposable towels,” said Anne Butterly, md of multi-award winning Easydry salon towels. “Our eco-friendly disposables have been leading the way in helping salons reduce their carbon footprint dramatically, including cutting down on water wastage.” Switching to Easydry can save around 50,000 litres of water every year –the equivalent of leaving a tap running 24 hours a day for 42 days – and end the daily grind of laundering cotton towels. Easydry also helps salons slash their energy bill, ends their dependency on highly polluting and unhygienic cotton towels and reduces the flow of chemicals into the water system. Easydry is the only certified eco-friendly disposable towel and the only one made to clinical standards of hygiene. Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman has been holding drought summits to review the impact of the continuing dry weather and consider what more can be done. She said: “Water companies are confident that supplies are high enough so that widespread restrictions to the public are unlikely. We're doing all we can to reduce the impact on agriculture and wildlife, but everyone can play their part. “Households know how to use less water, and everyone can do their bit to use water more wisely, not only through the summer, but throughout the year.” Ways to save water: · Install water aerated taps · Opt for low or dual-flush toilet · Always turn off taps quickly · Switch to Easydry Get more information from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs News story has link to defra http://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/quality/water/conservation/
