Easydry wins corporate social responsibility award
Easydry, the pioneer of disposable salon towels, has been named top home-grown eco business in the eighth 2011 Chambers Ireland Corporate Social Responsibility Awards, held in Dublin last night (15/09/11). Other winners included Microsoft, Marks & Spencer, the Ulster Bank, KMPG and Aviva.
The annual awards were partnered by Business in the Community Ireland, run in association with the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government and were sponsored by arvato Finance. Each winner was presented with a specially commissioned Tipperary Crystal trophy by Minister for Environment, Community & Local Government Phil Hogan T.D.
Easydry won the Eco-Business Award – Large Indigenous Company for its pioneering development of recyclable and compostable single-use towels, made using eco-friendly processes. It is the third award Easydry has won this year, and the ninth in past three years. With each win, Easydry’s reputation as a rapidly expanding multinational company with a conscience has been confirmed.
“We have put the environment at the forefront of our product development to ensure hairdressers and beauty therapists can embrace the freedom of disposable towels with a clear conscience,” said Anne Butterly, Easydry’s managing director. “Easydry towels are highly functional, providing a real alternative to bulky, over-washed cotton towels while also being more eco-friendly. They also take the strain off cotton production, which is the most polluting crop in the world.”
Speaking at the event, Ian Talbot, Chambers Ireland chief executive said: “This evening’s event and the individual efforts by each of the companies here tonight illustrate the positive work that is still taking place. Ireland has an opportunity to step out as a leader in the area of CSR, to show our commitment to the world in which we operate and to increase our credibility as a first-class place in which to do business.”
Mr Hogan continued: “I would like to offer my congratulations to all of tonight’s winners. My department is delighted to support the recognition of CSR work being carried out in Ireland. I am truly encouraged that despite economic pressures, companies in Ireland are continuing to contribute to society by conducting business in a fair manner and embracing responsibility for social and environmental issues. The partnerships being forged between the business community and wider society reaffirm the commitment by many businesses to contribute to economic development while also integrating consideration for the community in their business operations.”
